About

Tess van den Bergh

Flowers are a symbol of humanity’s deep desire for beauty. They represent our lives as if sped up in time. The flower blooms forth, resplendent, luscious, transfixing the admirer. We hold this short span of time with awe and wonderment before the bloom fades and withers and drops its seed, forever hopeful to continue the cycle, waiting through seasons until the perfect time to come forth again.
In my artwork I use spontaneous free form brushstrokes with considered compositional elements. I utilise both brushes and palette knives. I like to take a leap from realism towards invention of form. I am interested in where that line of representation diminishes and invention begins. It is the blurring of realism to expressionism that excites me.
